The PGA Head Professional Championship of Canada presented by Callaway Golf and supported by G&G Brands is slated for this week near Cancun, Mexico, where 53 of the top professionals in the country will soak in the rays at Iberostar Playa Paraiso while competing for the Head Professional of Canada crown.

First things first, a huge thank you to Callaway Golf for their continued support of the event, and Golf Away Tours for their support in bringing the championship to this venue alongside G&G Brands. During the practice round, multiple players were raving about the time they are having; and it is just getting started.

“It is unbelievable – it is the first time I’ve been here,” said 2015 champion Danny King. “The golf course is world class and I’m looking forward to enjoying the amenities at the resort and the beach. It is going to be a great week.”

“Iberostar is awesome, the food is great, and beaches are very nice. I’m looking forward to this week,” said Rideau View Golf & Country Club Head Professional Roger Beale. “Great to see the guys. We don’t get to see each other year-round so it’s a nice event for that.”

Iberostar Playa Paraiso is playing host to the 54-hole event this week. This is only the second time that the championship has been played outside of the Canada or the USA, the other was in Bermuda in 2016.

Glendale Country Club Head Professional Derrik Goodwin notes that having the event at this time of year is a nice way to celebrate the season that just concluded for most of Canada alongside industry colleagues.

“It’s a really cool experience having everyone here at the same resort,” said Goodwin. “For most of us it is the end of the season, so it is a great way to wrap up the year. I brought my family for a little vacation so I’m looking forward to the week and playing some golf.”

Thus far this season, Kevin Stinson, Alena Sharp, Alan McLean and Yohann Benson have stamped their names in PGA of Canada history, respectively picking up wins at the BetRegal PGA Championship of Canada, the ORORO PGA Women’s Championship of Canada, the PGA Seniors’ Championship of Canada presented by GOLFTEC and the PGA Assistants’ Championship of Canada presented by Callaway Golf.

The par-72 Iberostar Playa Paraíso Golf Club has hosted prestigious events such as the 2016 World Amateur Team Championship, Big Break Mexico, Iberostar Riviera Maya Open and the PGA TOUR Latinoamerica’s Bupa Match Play event from 2018-2019.

Iberostar Selection Paraíso Maya is one of the top resorts in Maya Riviera. The resort gives a Caribbean experience while also placing you at the heart of the Mayan civilization, one of the most fascinating cultures of pre-Columbian America.

“We are thrilled to once again be part of this PGA National Championship and feel that this year’s event will provide such a great atmosphere for everyone,” said Bruce Carroll, General Manager of Callaway Golf Canada, when it was announced earlier this year that the event would be an all-inclusive experience. “We are proud to continue supporting PGA Professionals from coast to coast and love this unique opportunity to interact and have some fun with some of the best in the country.”

The PGA Head Professional Championship of Canada presented by Callaway Golf has a list of champions that includes some of the most well-respected golf professionals in the country. The full list of past champions can be found here.

In addition to competing for the overall championship trophy, players in the PGA Head Professional Championship of Canada presented by Callaway Golf and supported by G&G Brands earn coveted ranking points with hopes of moving up the PGA of Canada Player Rankings supported by ECCO Golf.
