The PGA of Canada’s oldest and most storied event, the PGA Championship of Canada, will have the largest field in 20 years vying for the P.D. Ross Trophy next month in Calgary when the National Championship schedule presented by Golf Avenue kicks off.

Not since it’s time on the Korn Ferry Tour (then Nationwide Tour) rotation 20 years ago has the event seen a full field of 156 players.

Moving back to stroke-play format just a few years ago, paired with a host course capable of hosting a massive event, has allowed tournament operators to scale things up in 2024, offering a purse of $90,000 to the players.

“All of us on the PGA of Canada team have been extremely excited for the PGA Championship of Canada since we announced Mickelson National as the host club this past winter,” said PGA of Canada Championships Manager Matt Mueller. “This is going to be the strongest and largest field we have seen in a number of years, and we are thrilled to have a nice purse up for grabs thanks in large part to our tournament partners.”

A pair of local Calgary businesses have partnered with this year’s event; Harmony Developments, which encompasses the community surrounding Mickelson National, is a supporting partner of the event and will be on site throughout the week.

In addition, Harmony is partnering with the PGA of Canada to hosting a pair of clinics hosted by a number of players; an open clinic and a junior clinic. Stay tuned for more information on how to get involved.

Flint Corp, a leading service company in Canada’s energy and industrial markets, is also involved with the event as a supporting partner and will have representatives at Mickelson National throughout the week.

In addition to the local partners, National partners E-Z-GO, Golf Away Tours, and Lightspeed HQ have been heavily involved to help elevate the event for the PGA of Canada professionals participating.
