Golf's National Coaching Certification Program's 2023 Workshop Schedule Announced

What is the NCCP?
The National Coaching Certification Program certifies coaches and instructors who have demonstrated their ability to apply critically important competencies to coaching and instruction situations relevant to the stage of athletes they coach.
Because these courses are paramount to the development of golf professionals, they are required to earn a teaching or coaching specialization.
Earning a specialization in the PGA of Canada Training Academy presented by Titleist and Footjoy has never been more important, as we specifically market the value of these specializations to employers across the country. For more information on the Class 'A' specializations, click here.
The Coach of New Competitors workshop falls under the Coaching specialization, while the Instructor of Intermediate Golfers workshop falls under the Teaching Specialization.
Among the 10 required credits needed to specialize in coaching, certification in either Coach of New Developers or Coach of Developing Competitors is required.
Among the 10 required credits needed to specialize in teaching, certification in Instructor of Intermediate Golfers is required.

"The PGA of Canada is thrilled to offer a full schedule of NCCP workshops across Canada to develop the next generation of coaches and teachers," said PGA of Canada CEO Kevin Thistle. "Educating our professionals is one of the most important missions of the PGA of Canada, and we are so excited to once again welcome some of the most talented instructors in the country to share their knowledge at these workshops."
There is an online component required prior to the workshop. In years past, this was part of the workshop itself, but learner feedback let us know that this was a time-consuming approach and we have adjusted accordingly.
Awards Eligibility
NCCP certification allow PGA of Canada members to be eligible to win some of the most sought after awards in the industry.

Coach of New Competitors workshop (and post-workshop evaluation) lead to eligibility for:
Jack McLaughlin Junior Leader of the Year Award
This award recognizes the PGA of Canada professional who is a leader in junior golf and who reflects the ideals of those who work with youth.
Ben Kern Coach of the Year Award
This award is based on a professional’s overall performance in coaching; unusual, innovative and special coaching programs initiated or implemented; articles published; as well as outstanding golfers in more competitive streams that the professional has coached.
Either Instructor of Beginner Golfers or Instructor of Intermediate Golfers (and the post-workshop evaluation), will lead to eligibility for:
George Knudson Teacher of the Year Award
This award is based on a professional’s overall performance in teaching; unusual, innovative and special teaching programs initiated or implemented; articles published; as well as outstanding golfers the professional has instructed.
Here is everything you need to know for this year's schedule. Once each workshop reaches 20 learners, there is no guarantee that you will be able to attend, so register early to avoid disappointment.

Instructor of Beginner Golfers
Context of this course deals with golfers who are experiencing the sport for the first time through a series of lessons. Typically, there is no formalized competition at this level - it is strictly about skill development and there is a short timeframe of interaction between the instructor and participant.
Coach of New Competitors
Instructor of Intermediate Golfers
This is designed to for coaches working with athletes in the Instruction to Competition and Learn to Compete stages of LTPD and will focus on the difference between instruction and coaching.

Community Golf Coach
This is a workshop tailored for community coaches (mostly volunteers), who are looking to work with children, beginners or support with a junior golf program. Completing this training will give liability insurance benefits similar to what PGA of Canada members receive

Reminders for Registration
- Each workshop has a maximum attendance of 20 learners
- Once this number is met, we can no longer guarantee a spot for any learner
- Following each workshop (except for Instructor of Beginner Golfers), you are eligible to apply for a PGA of Canada professional development bursary and potentially be reimbursed for the cost of the workshop. Find more information on PGA of Canada bursaries here.
