The PGA of Canada Remembers

Long time PGA of Canada Member and PGA of Alberta Teacher of the Year award recipient, Grant Cook passed away on November 27th, 2016 at the age of 47. He is survived by his wife, Katherine and sons Andrew and Mathew.

Born in Kirkland Lake, Ontario on May 5th, 1969 Grant spent a short time here before migrating west to Fort McMurray with his family in 1976. His post-secondary education at the University of Calgary brought him to Calgary in 1988 to begin his journey towards completing his Bachelor of Arts in Economics and a minor in Commerce Degree. It was in Calgary that he joined the PGA of Canada in 1992 and developed as a Golf Professional for the following 24 years. He was only at Shaw-Nee Slopes GC for one season before being appointed Head Professional, where he remained for 8 years. For 12 years, as a Teaching Professional at the National Golf Academy he continued to make a great impact on many PGA of Alberta member’s lives. As a well-respected instructor, Grant incorporated the philosophies of the National Golf Academy to golfers at all levels. He was nominated for PGA of Alberta Teacher of the Year in 2007, 2008, and 2009. Grant was awarded with this honour in 2008.

Grant was a committee member for the PGA of Alberta Consumer Show for 10 years and provided the Association with a lot of guidance and assistance throughout the years. Grant was a guest speaker and instructor at the 2005 PGA of Alberta Teaching Summit. He was also a guest instructor for the 2006 Teaching Summit at the Glencoe Club, Co-Organizer/ Instructor for the 2008 Teach the Professionals’ Education Seminar at the Derrick Club, and was a Co-Instructor for the past 3 years with the “Teach the Teachers” Summits for the Calgary Board of Education.
