The PGA of Canada Remembers

It is with great sadness that the family of Norman Turner announces his peaceful passing on Thursday, August 3, 2017.

Norm will be lovingly remembered by his beloved wife, Pat of 59 years. Loving father of his cherished, late son Normie (1981) and proud father of his daughter Laurie. Norm will always be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Adam and Lauren. Son of the late Alfred and Marion Turner. Brother of the late Willa Robb and brother-in-law of the late Bob Robb. Uncle of Douglas and Michael Robb.

Norm attended Danforth Technical School, where he enjoyed many fond memories of athletics, outstanding teachers and lifelong friendships. Under the wonderful football coaching of the late Lou Fick, Norm and his teammates earned two TSSA city championships. Norm graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Physical & Health Education. Norm loved football. While at U of T, he quarterbacked for the Varsity Blues. After graduation, Norm went on to play for two exceptional teams, the East York Argos and the North York Nights. Norm returned to Danforth Technical School to teach Physical & Health Education, where he immensely enjoyed coaching junior and senior football and other sports.

In 1970, Norm joined IBM at the IBM Country Club in Markham as Recreational Director. During this time, Norm's passion for golf further developed. After retiring from IBM, Norm proudly earned the accomplishment and title of PGA of Canada Golf Professional.

Nicknamed appropriately 'Storm'n Norman' by his buddies, and 'Batman' by his family. Remember Norm happily cutting grass (to resemble a golf course), riding his bike for miles (especially during the winter) and playing golf - he would like that.

The family would like to personally thank Norm's Family Physician, Dr. Geordie Fallis for his compassionate care and kindness. We would also like to acknowledge the Michael Garron medical team from floors C2 and B3. Special gratitude goes to the Palliative Care Team, including the exceptional care by Dr. Kevin Workentin and Palliative Care Specialist Karina Wulf.

There will be no funeral at Norm's request. If so desired in Norm's memory, donations may be made to Palliative Care at Michael Garron Hospital or the Kidney Foundation of Canada.
