The Canadian PGA Releases 2008 National Tournament Dates
ACTON, ON (February 20, 2008) - The Canadian PGA released its 2008 tournament schedule today featuring four National Championships.
Highlights include the Canadian PGA Women’s Championship to be held at Credit Valley Golf and Country Club in Mississauga, Ontario. This year the event is open to all foreign female golf professionals, adding an international flair together with the top Canadians. The field is promising to be one of the strongest in history with defending champion and current Stanford University Assistant Women’s Golf Coach Salimah Mussani returning to defend her title. Credit Valley will host the Canadian PGA Women’s Championship August 6th to 8th. The event will once again kick off with the Simmlands Insurance Pro-Am on August 6th.
The Titleist & FootJoy Club Professional Championship (CPC) returns to Florida for the fifth time in its history and will take place November 17th to 19th. The PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida will once again host an elite field of Canadian PGA Club Professionals. Last year’s field was considered among the best ever to participate in the CPC and this year will again feature qualifying formats – players otherwise not exempt must qualify via their respective Zone Championship. A highlight of the tournament is the 2007 Canadian PGA National Awards presentation as well as a Resort Owners Group (ROG) player’s barbeque. The winner of the CPC will receive an exemption into the 2009 RBC Canadian Open at Glen Abbey in Oakville, Ontario.
The 2008 Titleist & FootJoy Canadian PGA Assistants’ Championship will return to eastern Canada in Quebec for the second year in a row where Beloeil Club de Golf will host this prestigious event for the first time from September 23rd to 25th . Always one of the strongest fields of all the Canadian PGA National Championships, the 2008 edition may be the strongest yet.
In addition, the 2008 BreconRidge Canadian PGA Seniors’ Championship will return to the Nation’s Capital, as the beautiful Brookstreet Resort and Marshes Golf Club hosts the event from July 2nd to 5th. Last year’s BreconRidge Seniors’ Championship was highlighted by the Lumiere Gala and player’s barbeque. 2007 Champion Dave Barr saved par on the final hole to beat Claude Tremblay by a single shot.
“The Canadian PGA is very excited about this year’s tournament schedule and we are looking forward to another exciting year of providing high-calibre competition for our 3700 Members in our four National Championships,” stated Warren Crosbie, President of the Canadian PGA.
