The Canadian PGA Joins the Fight against Prostate Cancer on Father’s Day

- Canadian PGA to Partner with Foundation to Raise Awareness-

ACTON, ON (June 17, 2009) – This Father’s Day, the Canadian PGA is excited to once again support Prostate Cancer Canada (formerly known as Prostate Cancer Research Foundation of Canada) in raising awareness of prostate cancer—the most common cancer in men.

Last year, Canadians from coast to coast were invited to support the Foundation through the Canadian PGA “Round for Dad” where Canadian PGA Members across the country dedicated Father’s Day as a day to collectively donate to help find a cure while promoting awareness of the disease. Combined with other Prostate Cancer Canada efforts, over $2 million was raised through various fundraising avenues.

Due to the success of the program last year, and to continuously promote awareness of the disease, the Canadian PGA will once again be running the “Round for Dad” National campaign in partnership with the Prostate Cancer Canada on Father’s Day – June 21st, 2009.

“The Canadian PGA is thrilled once again to nationally promote awareness of the disease on Father's Day, through Member participation at various golf facilities by facilitating donations on behalf of their clubs to support this tremendous cause,” stated Lindon Garron, President of the Canadian PGA.

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men with over 24,000 Canadian males being diagnosed in this year alone. Currently, one in seven men are expected to be diagnosed in their lifetime and one in 27 will die from the disease.

Prostate Cancer Canada raises funds and awareness across the country to educate men about the threat of the disease and fund leading-edge research into the prevention, detection, treatment and a cure for prostate cancer. The Foundation has invested more than $17 million in research and public education over the past 11 years.

By partnering with Prostate Cancer Canada, the Canadian PGA will participate in a variety of events that will help raise funds to battle the disease on two fronts; through building awareness and creating funds for research.

If you are interested in supporting Prostate Cancer Canada in an alternate way, the new symbol for the foundation is a blue striped tie which is 100% Italian silk and is available for $65. The logo (tie) is a symbol of hope – with the end goal of eliminating prostate cancer. It is a symbol of unity in fighting the disease and promoting awareness.

If you are interested in purchasing a tie as a gift, for yourself or for a loved one, please contact the Foundation at 416.441.2131 or toll free at 1.888.255.0333 or CLICK HERE

Money raised from the sale of this tie will go towards the development of programs related to awareness, public education, advocacy, support of those affected, and research into the prevention, detection, treatment and cure of prostate cancer.
