PGA Club Professional Championship of Canada Headed Back to Florida

This year’s PGA Club Professional Championship of Canada presented by Titleist & FootJoy will make a return to the Sunshine State.
 
Woodlands Country Club in Tamarac, Fla., will host the 54-hole PGA of Canada national championship that features head professionals, head teaching professionals and executive professionals, Nov. 13-16, 2017.
 
“The PGA of Canada is very excited about heading back to the great state of Florida and Woodlands Country Club for this year’s PGA Club Professional Championship of Canada presented by Titleist & FootJoy,” said PGA of Canada president Steve Wood. “ClubLink is the largest employer of PGA professionals in Canada, so it’s fitting we host one of our flagship national championships at one of their facilities.”
 
Woodlands Country Club was created in 1968 when its developer, Ken Behring, wanted to build a golf community resembling Palm Springs, Calif. The golf course was carved out of 640 acres of verdant, virgin woodlands in Tamarac, which is in the Fort Lauderdale area. World famous golf course architect Robert Von Hagge and PGA Tour player Bruce Devlin designed the 36 hole championship layouts, which were constructed by Leo Neal, who promised two of the best-conditioned golf courses in the country citing that this was the "finest soil he had ever worked with in Florida."
 
“We’re both excited and honoured to be hosting the PGA Club Professional Championship of Canada presented by Titleist & FootJoy,” said Woodlands CC director of operations Jim Greene. “PGA of Canada professionals teeing up for the week will be treated to a fantastic Florida golfing experience.”
 
In 2016 at the Port Royal Golf Club in Bermuda, Craig Hocknull claimed the PGA Club Professional Championship of Canada presented Titleist & FootJoy. The 41-year-old’s three-day total of 4-under-par was five shots better than Brian Hadley. The PGA of Canada’s No. 1-ranked player Dave Levesque finished alone in third at 3-over for the championship.
 
In addition to competing for the overall championship trophy, players in the PGA Club Professional Championship of Canada earn much-coveted ranking points with hopes of moving up on the PGA of Canada Player Rankings presented by RBC. Players who are ranked inside the top 64 following the PGA Club Professional Championship of Canada earn invites into the following year's PGA Championship of Canada sponsored by Mr. Lube and presented by TaylorMade-adidas Golf.

The Inter-Zone Team Championship, which is comprised of four players per zone (and three scores per team counting), is also handed out after 36-holes.

Former champions of the PGA Club Professional Championship of Canada include Hocknull, Danny King, Adam Chamberlain, Roger Beale, Norm Jarvis, Gar Hamilton, Bob Panasik, Yvan Beauchemin, Graham Gunn, Ken Tarling and Brian Hutton.
