Ben Boudreau of Longueuil, QC will be back to defend his title after the magical finish he had in 2009 to steal the title away from Jeff Buder of Vancouver, BC. Buder, Head Professional at Point Grey G&CC, chalked up another great finish in the event but he remains hungry for that National title.
Boudreau birdied the 18th hole in the final round and then birdied it again on the first playoff hole to secure the victory. The 18th hole on the Wanamaker Course at PGA Village is widely considered the hardest hole on the golf course.
“This is one of our flagship events every year and we expect another wild finish again this year,” said Glenn Cundari, President of the Canadian PGA. “Our partnership with the PGA of America gets stronger every year and we look forward to hosting our best Club Professionals at their great facility.”
Two-time champion Danny King of Milton, ON narrowly missed out on the playoff with Boudreau and Buder last year but had to settle for solo 3rd. This year could be the year that King notches the hat trick and joins an elite group of players that have won three Canadian PGA National Championships.
Daniel Talbot of St-Basile Le Grand, QC and Ken Tarling of Sanford, ON will enter the Canadian PGA Club Professional Championship with their competitive juices flowing having both recently completed the first stage of European Tour Senior Qualifying School. Both Talbot and Tarling made it through the first stage and are currently competing in the final stage as they try and secure a chance at a dream in 2011. The duo also finished in a tie for 4th in the 2009 Canadian PGA Club Professional Championship.
A remarkable nine past champions will look to etch their name into the famed trophy once again. Boudreau, Kyle German of Surrey, BC (2008), Eric Landreville of Melocheville, QC (2007), King (2005 & 2006), Brett Burgeson of Airdrie, AB (2003), Ian Doig of Sharon, ON (2004), Ken Tarling of Sanford, ON (2001), Graham Gunn of Kanata, ON (2000) & Dale Pederson of Kingston, ON (1999),
