Jonas Earns Euro Senior Tour Card

PGA of Canada member Phil Jonas earned his European Senior Tour card this week after a final 4-under par 67 final round.

The two-time PGA Assistants’ Championship of Canada winner grabbed one the six available cards, finishing the 72-hole qualifying school tournament T5, at 3 under.

"I played well today, only missed one fairway and one green,” Jonas told Brad Ziemer of the Vancouver Sun. "The only blemish was that three-putt on 18,” he says, adding, “It was incredibly nerve-wracking the last few holes with some dangerous holes. When I hit the 18th green, I thought I was okay only to miss a very short putt."

Jonas made the cut at last year's Senior British Open at Turnberry in Scotland and hopes to play his way into this year's Senior Open at Royal Birkdale as the card he earned Thursday does not include an exemption into the Senior Open.

Fellow PGA of Canada member Jean LaForce of Quebec finished T7, earning conditional status on the tour this year.

Keir Smith, Ken Tarling and Dave Wettlaufer—all PGA of Canada members—all failed to earned any status.
