HANNAH JUN CAPTURES HER FIRST CANADIAN PGA NATIONAL TITLE

MISSISSAUGA, ON (August 8, 2008) – LPGA Tour rookie Hannah Jun of San Diego, CA captured her first Canadian PGA National title shooting rounds of 70-70 for a 4-under par tournament total of 140 earning her the $11,500 first prize at the Canadian PGA Women’s Championship presented by NIKE Golf at Credit Valley Golf and Country Club in Mississauga, ON.

Teeing off in unusual summer weather with rain, wind and sun beating down on the professionals, Jun headed into the second round in the final pairing with fellow LPGA Tour players Kris Tamulis and Lisa Strom. Carrying her own bag without a caddy, Jun recorded five birdies in her round noting her “up and down” on the 12th hole as the turning point in her game. “Today I gave away a few strokes on the front nine, but then on 12, I felt that my game turned around and I posted only pars and a few birdies after that point,” stated 23 year-old Jun who started playing golf at the age of 12.

This is Jun’s first trip to the east of Canada and credits Canadian LPGA Tour player Cindy Pasechnik as the reason behind her competing in the event. “I have been to a lot of events and tournaments over the years, and I have to say that this is one of the best that I have been to, it fits into our schedule perfectly, and I look forward to returning next year to defend my title,” stated Jun, who turned professional in June of 2007. Last fall Jun tied for 25th at the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament to earn non-exempt status for the 2008 LPGA season on her first attempt.

When asked what Jun will do with the $11,500 first place cheque, she laughed, “I actually will be putting this money towards LPGA Qualifying School in the fall because I currently have conditional status and it is a very tiring lifestyle. Having to qualify on Mondays is very tough because you have to play every event like you will never play again in your life, you need to learn to adjust to your surroundings quickly, and be able to live on the road. This win definitely gives me some confidence heading into next Monday’s qualifier for the CN Canadian Open.”

Jun’s junior career was highlighted by three consecutive California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) individual titles (2000-02), as well as Second-Team All-America honours by the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA). She was runner-up at the 2002 Junior World Championship and, in 2003, won the Callaway Golf Junior World Championships and earned her second consecutive AJGA Second-Team All-America honour.

In addition to the Canadian PGA National Championship added to her resume, Jun will also receive an exemption into the 2009 CN Women’s Open at Priddis Greens in Calgary, Alberta.

Low amateur of the Championship was RCGA National Development Team Member Karly Pinder of Exeter, ON who carded rounds of 80-72 for a final score of 152. Low Club Professional of the Championship was past champion and always competitive player, Marie- Josee Rouleau, Associate Professional at Rosemere Golf Club in Rosemere, Québec at five over par 149 (73-76).

One note of interest is that Kim Williams who was tied fourth after the first round had to unfortunately withdraw after the sixth hole due to an injury.

The Canadian PGA Women’s Championship presented by NIKE Golf was a two day 36-hole stroke play championship at Credit Valley G&CC in Mississauga, Ontario. The 21st edition of the event, which was also open to foreign players for the first time, offered a purse of $70,000.

Designed by Robbie Robinson, Credit Valley Golf and Country Club in Mississauga, ON retains many of the hallmarks of his design. The well bunkered course features narrow tree lined fairways and large fast undulating greens which puts a premium on length and accuracy. The setting is serene as the majority of the course meanders in the valley lands of the Credit River just upstream from the north shore of Lake Ontario.

Past champions of the Championship include Lori Kane (’96,’97,’98,’99 & ’01), Nancy Harvey (’94,’95 & ’00) and Alena Sharp (’04).
