David Zibrik Takes Over Lead at the Titleist & FootJoy Canadian PGA Club Professional Championship
Port St. Lucie, FL (November 23, 2010) – He might be a rookie on paper but David Zibrik of Vancouver, BC is certainly not playing like one. Zibrik, who shot 4-under-par 68 today, will take a one shot lead over Marc Girouard of St-Sauveur, QC heading into the final round of the Titleist & FootJoy Canadian PGA Club Professional Championship at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
The long hitting Zibrik toured around the Wanamaker Course at PGA Golf Club posting six birdies and two bogeys to vault into the lead at 6-under par for the final Canadian PGA National Championship of 2010.
“This is my first time down here and it’s been awesome, especially after putting myself in position to win a National Championship,’ stated Zibrik, Head Teaching Professional at the Westwood Plateau Golf Academy. “I guess you might say I’m a bit of an underdog but if I can play well again tomorrow it might erase that status.”
Girouard, a perennial favourite at the CPC, has put himself in position yet again after another solid round of 3-under-par 69. Girouard made five birdies on the Wanamaker Course on Tuesday with his only real blemish coming on par-5 5th hole where he made a double bogey.
“I absolutely love coming down here which might be why I’ve had some success over the last few years,” said Girouard, Head Professional at Club de Golf Le Diamant. “My only goal tomorrow is to have fun because usually you play pretty well when you are having fun.”
Jeff Buder of Vancouver has once again put himself in position to win after a solid round of 4-under par 68. Buder has recorded three top-10 finishes in the past four years including the well documented runner-up last year. Buder sits alone in 3rd place two shots back of the leader Zibrik.
‘I hit the ball really solid again today and I didn’t make those same silly chipping errors as I did yesterday and that seemed to be the difference,’ said Buder, Head Professional at Point Grey Golf & Country Club. ‘It feels great to put myself in position to win again after what happened last year and I’m looking forward to playing well again tomorrow.”
First round leader Brian Hutton of Burlington, ON struggled on the way in making bogies on the 17th and 18th holes but only sits three shots back of Zibrik after a one-over par 73.
In the Canadian PGA Inter-Zone competition, Team BC wins by three shots over Team Ontario.
The 36-hole Inter-Zone competition is compiled of four players on each team representing their Canadian PGA zone over the first two rounds. The team score is calculated from the best three out of four scores accumulated over the first two rounds.
The purse for the Canadian PGA Club Professional Championship is $85,000 with the winner receiving $12,000.
