CN Future Links Leader Training Workshop First of Its Kind in Canada
ACTON, ON (November 23, 2008) - Canada’s first CN Future Links Leader training workshop took place at Humber College on Sunday, paving the way for more Canadians to become involved with growing the game of golf in Canada.
Open to the public, the one day CN Future Links Leader workshops are designed for those that will be working with children or youth to introduce them to the basic skills of golf. It helps prepare Leaders to run CN Future Links programs by focusing on a number of different aspects of coaching children and youth.
Sunday's workshop was lead by CPGA Professional and junior golf guru Glenn Cundari who has received multiple awards for his extensive work with junior golfers. The session was notable because the new CN Future Links Leaders are the first non-CPGA members in Canada to be certified to teach golf to juniors in the Community Sport Stream of the National Coaches Certification Program (NCCP).
Topics covered included developing and expressing a coaching philosophy, developing lesson plans that are suitable for children, dealing with ethical and legal issues, and understanding the basic rules, etiquette, safety and equipment of golf.
The interactive session also included the participation of several children without any previous golf experience. The Leaders were tasked with developing a lesson plan to involve the new junior golfers in putting, chipping, and full-swing activities using kid-sized golf equipment.
This week’s CN Future Links Leader training workshop was just the first of many to take place across the country, and sessions are open to the public.
