Canadian PGA Partners with Movember for Prostate Cancer

The Canadian PGA is pleased to announce that they have joined forces in the Movember campaign with Prostate Cancer Canada.

Movember is the month long fundraising campaign, in November, that encourages guys, known as “Mo Bros”, to grow and groom a “Mo”, (Australian term for moustache), in order to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer.

A Mo Bro starts Movember 1st – the month formerly known as November – clean shaven, and grows a moustache all month long, garnering support from friends and family in the form of donations. What’s more, a Mo Bro is a walking billboard for the cause as his new look opens the door for him to talk about prostate cancer.

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men, with rates of incidence and mortality similar to those of breast cancer in women. During his lifetime, 1 in 6 Canadian men will be diagnosed with the disease; this number is expected to rise to 1 in 4 within a decade.

While growing a Mo is left to the guys, Mo Sistas (women who support their guys) form an important part of Movember by recruiting Mo Bros, helping to raise funds and attending the highly anticipated Gala Partés. The parties at the end of Movember are the ultimate celebration of the Moustache and the grand finale to the Movember journey.

Funds raised through Movember will go directly to Prostate Cancer Canada, whose mission is to raise funds for the development of programs related to awareness, public education, advocacy, support of those affected, and research into the prevention, detection, treatment and cure of prostate cancer.

In 2008, over 9,400 Mo Bros and Mo Sistas from across Canada got together and raised over $2.4 million dollars – making Movember the largest charity event for Men in Canada.

Get involved, grow a Mo or support those who do. While working together and challenging one another, Canadians can help change the face of men’s health one Mo at a time.
