Canadian PGA High Performance Forward Thinking Event
Canadian PGA - High Performance Forward Thinking Event
On October 26th, the Canadian PGA, in partnership with Golf Canada, proudly hosted the ‘Canadian PGA High Performance Forward Thinking Event’ at the National Headquarters in Acton. This event brought together talented Canadians from the high performance sport world to discuss what high performance in Canada really is. A variety of discussions were facilitated by Dr. Stephen Norris, to capitalize on the depth of experience to support high performance athletes in the sport of golf.
As Canada looks towards the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, where golf will make its first appearance as a full medal sport since 1904, a clear need was identified to look beyond its own walls and discover what it means to perform at the highest level of international competition.
“It was truly an awesome day,” stated Glenn Cundari, President of the Canadian PGA. “We literally had a major portion of the Canadian High Performance brain trust in one room, a rare opportunity that will benefit Canadian PGA Professional’s and their students for years to come.”
Attendees included individuals from the Canadian Olympic Committee, Own the Podium, Canadian Sports Centre Ontario, Athletics Canada, Swimming Ontario, Coaching Association of Canada, and Freestyle Skiing champion, Steve Omischl.
This high performance event was created as part of the beginning stages of development of the Canadian PGA’s third context in the Coaching Association of Canada’s National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) – “Coach of High Performers”. The Canadian PGA has made great strides in coaching and instruction in the last five years, and is the only PGA in the world to separate its instructor education from coach education and specifically train coaches for the sport of golf.
