A Little Bit of Everything at PGA of Canada Night
Folks who have never been to PGA of Canada Night at the PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando, Fla., often ask me, “Well, what’s it all about?”
The simple answer is that PGA of Canada Night is the largest yearly gathering of the Canadian golf industry. Period.
But, the night is actually much more than the simple answer.
It’s where Canadian who attend the PGA Merchandise show gather to celebrate golf in Canada; recognize PGA of Canada national award winners; honour new inductees into the PGA of Canada Hall of Fame; meet friends and colleagues—both new and old; and this year, it’s will also be the site for George S. Lyon’s 1904 Olympic Golf trophy.
Lyon, who won the gold medal in golf at the 1904 Summer Olympics in St. Louis, is the first (and to date, only) Olympic individual golf champion. And, in case you didn’t already know—he’s a Canadian.
If you’ve ever had an opportunity to see Lyon’s trophy in person, you’ll agree that it’s a real beauty and part of the Canadian golf landscape.
Since 2013, PGA of Canada national award winners have been honoured during PGA of Canada Night. There’s no better experience for the award winners to be recognized in a big room, under the bright spotlights and in front of a large, influential audience of the Canadian golf industry.
The PGA of Canada national award winners are:
- Danny King (The Performance Academy at Magna), Mike Weir Player of the Year;
- Dean Manz (Wascana Country Club), Pat Fletcher Retailer of the Year;
- Cory Southon (Henry Brunton Golf), Moe Norman Candidate for Membership of the Year;
