- Job Summary

The Mechanic is responsible for planning and coordinating all activities of the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo’s (RRC) equipment maintenance program. This includes but is not limited to assisting with purchasing, leasing, vendor relations, repairs and maintenance, fuel programs, record keeping, and compliance. This position will play a key role in assisting the leader in developing and maintaining the RRC’s fleet maintenance strategies.

- Responsibilities

- Works with the leader coordinating and scheduling maintenance duties as required.
- Ensures the process of vehicle and equipment repairs minimizes fleet downtime while developing and following quality assurance/control procedures related to the fleet.
- Will provide a safe shop working environment and support all safety initiatives of the RRC. Ensure compliance with environmental and safety standards.
- Oversees tool inventories, fleet inspections, and preventative maintenance programs for all company-owned vehicles.
- Identifies safety issues and problems with equipment and corrects them in a timely manner.
- Maintains service records to a high degree of detail in using the corporation's Asset Management System.
- Coaches the organization’s Operators on day-to-day fleet operations and maintenance procedures.
- Advise department manager on repair vs replacement timelines.
- Presents cost savings ideas and opportunities on a proactive basis.
- Troubleshoots and repairs gas and diesel engines, brakes, electrical, hydraulic, fuel, ignition, emission, air, exhaust, drive train, transmission, and related problems and components.
- Monitors repair work sent out for cost, quality, and completeness.
- Performs and organizes a routine sharpening and related maintenance program for all mowing equipment.
- Provides field assistance for disabled vehicles and equipment.
- Orders and manages a reasonable inventory of parts and service equipment.
- Will be required to perform general maintenance and handy work.

- Qualifications

Qualifications: Education & Experience
- Journeyman Automotive Service Technician, Power Equipment Technician, or equivalent industry or trade certification.
- Class 5 Driver License with proof of updated driver abstract.
- Minimum five (5) years of fleet management or mechanical experience.
- Minimum (two) 2 years’ previous experience as a golf course mechanic is preferred.
- Toro/John Deere certifications would be considered an asset.
Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to adapt to a flexible work schedule and multi-task
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
- Strong Understanding of Fleet Management electronic tracking programs
- Knowledge of and experience working with electronic and hydraulic systems
- Trouble shooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively; establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and a diversity of others,
- Self-motivated, strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Detailed oriented
- Willingness to work long hours when necessary
- Proactive with all aspects of the job and work environment
- Reel set up and reel grinding an asset
- Fabricating experience is an asset (i.e., welding)

Working Conditions
- This position requires heavy lifting, carrying, pulling/pushing of supplies and equipment up to 50 lbs.
- May be required to stand, stop, bend, kneel, and squat for extended periods of time.
- May be exposed to fumes or dust, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather, moving mechanical parts, and moderate to loud noise levels.
- Compensation

Probationary Rate: $42.20
Job Rate: $43.34
Cost of Living Allowance: $13,200 per annum, paid in equal payments each pay period.
