The Thornhill Club (formerly the Thornhill Golf & Country Club ~ www.thethornhillclub.ca ) was established in 1922 and is home to over 1,300 members. It provides golf, curling, tennis, fitness, swimming, bridge, and social facilities in a family-oriented environment.

Thornhill has hosted the 1945 Canadian Open, 2008 Men’s Mid-Amateur, 2009 Toronto Star Amateur, 2011 Ontario Women’s Mid-Amateur, 2014 Canadian Junior Girls, the 2016 Ontario Men’s Amateur and the 2022 Canadian Men’s MidAm Championship.

It boasts two gorgeous golf courses; an 18-hole championship, Par 71 course accompanied by a 9-hole Par 31 executive course designed by Stanley Thompson; four ForeSight golf simulator bays; three Har-Tru clay tennis courts, six sheets of curling ice, two fitness studios, a gym, dining facilities, and meeting rooms. The Club is very well located on Yonge St. in the GTA, easily accessible by Hwy 407 and 401, between Hwy 400 and the 404.

The Thornhill Club is currently seeking a Golf Shop Merchandise Manager, who is dynamic and service-driven, to help lead our Golf Shop retail services.

Job Summary
The Merchandise Manager will set the standard for member/guest retail services, products, quality and customer experience in the Golf Shop. The successful candidate must be service oriented, attentive to detail, motivated and possess selling skills/experience, creative, organized, willing to learn, and a strong communicator. The Merchandise Manager will report directly to and work with the Head Golf Professional on all aspects of the merchandising concession and special events.
Responsibilities

The role includes the following responsibilities:

  • Provide daily customer service and sales at levels associated with a premium private Golf Shop;
  • Assist Members/Guests with daily inquires;
  • Oversee retail operations and achieve established goals within the sales forecast;
  • Promote Member Loyalty/Appreciation program, while establishing pricing structure for inventory and special orders, for competitive pricing and appropriate profit margins;
  • Create and maintain an annual “Open To Buy” plan and oversee purchases;
  • Present a diverse and desirable array of apparel and accessories, in-line with member demands;
  • Receive, price, reconcile all product & special orders, including PO/invoice validation for accurate inventory counts;
  • Ensure all displays/mannequins are properly maintained for an attractive and orderly Golf Shop;
  • Ensure all areas of the Golf Shop are kept clean and presentable;
  • Ensure product & merchandise levels are maintained throughout the Golf Shop;
  • Drive product knowledge programs to train, motivate and develop effective sales/service levels;
  • Attend approved retail/merchandise buying shows and conferences;
  • Maintain a professional and collaborative partnership with vendors and Reps;
  •  Manage and communicate Golf Shop “Promotional Calendar” and Social Media platforms;
  • Club/Golf Shop experience, as well as PGA membership, not necessary but assets;
  • Adhere to The Thornhill Club’s policies, and Health & Safety standards;

Compensation

 Annual salary: $800-850/wk.
