Head Professional: Royal Colwood Golf Club

Royal Colwood Golf Club is a private golf club located in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Designed by Arthur Vernon Macan in 1913, Royal Colwood is a traditional style parklands championship course set amongst 450-year-old Douglas Firs and majestic Garry Oaks. One of a select few in the world, Royal Colwood received its Royal designation from King George V in 1931.   focused on Member enjoyment and satisfaction through a visible, accessible, and professional management/leadership style. 

In addition to the prestigious championships hosted at Royal Colwood Golf Club, we are very excited to host the 2024 Golf Canada Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship.

Job Summary

After five years as our Head Professional, and a successful career of more than 30 years in the golf industry, Rich Chlopan is retiring and moving East.  Royal Colwood Golf Club is now searching for our next Head Professional.

Our club seeks a charismatic, engaging PGA Head professional with a passion for golf and a standard of excellence in leadership and managing memorable experiences for our team, our Members, and guests.  The successful candidate will manage all aspects of the Golf Operations department while collaborating with our management team as we administer club programs.

With more than 80 reciprocals around the world, and a diverse Membership with varying needs, Royal Colwood requires a dynamic individual to exceed daily expectations of its Members abroad. The individual will promote an enthusiastic professional atmosphere

Responsibilities

Member Experience 

  • Support the General Manager implementing the clubs Mission, Vision, and Core Values 
  • Collaborate with Management while successfully applying our new strategic plan 
  • Grow strong relationships with our Membership ensuring trust and confidence in our operation 
  • Support the General Manager with Member Policy, Bylaws, and committee objectives 
  • Collaborate with Management on golf and social opportunities to enhance our club experience 
  • Visible and engaging with Members and visitors of all ages, including an engaging Junior Program
  • Consider and utilize new golf related technology to enhance the Member experience 
  • Address member concerns with an educated and professional consistency 
  • Celebrate accomplishments and special occasions of our Members and staff 
  • Maintain club policies and bylaws through staff and Member education 

Human Resource Management 

  • Support management in creating a vibrant and engaging workplace culture 
  • Develop an industry leading on-boarding process and training programs for all golf operations staff 
  • Support our PGA leaders in reaching their professional goals 
  • Design and execute measurable service expectations for our golf services team 
  • Ensure a high standard of cleanliness and functionality throughout the golf operations 
  • Timely, pro-active communication with Management, Members and industry partners  
  • Develop progressive concepts resulting in growth and development of golf programs 
  • Develop measurable service standards to ensure memorable Member experiences 
  • Strategize with the General Manager to maximize education and development of our team through our industry partners and their available resources 

Finances 

  • Timely administration of annual operational and capital finances 
  • Pro-actively respond to our financial position and offer creative opportunities for financial success 
  • Educate our senior golf operations staff on financial objectives and strategies  

Retail 

  • Provide leadership and guidance resulting in memorable retail experiences 
  • Evolve an exceptional retail program showcasing industry leading trends 
  • Understand the needs of our clientele while managing innovative retail concepts 
  • Continue to increase retail revenues while maintaining strong profit margins

Event Management  

  • Collaborate with management and our club leaders to deliver memorable event experiences 
  • Ensure strong inter-departmental planning and execution of our busy fixture card 
  • Build constructive relationships with our Men’s, Women’s, Mixed, Wilbur and Inter-club representatives  
  • Manage the implementation of our steps of service and commitment to event excellence 

PGA Instruction 

  • Overseeing the Director of Instruction, the Head Professional will ensure we provide advanced Instructional programs for all levels of play 
  • Ensure we offer PGA programs that encourage prospective Members to consider joining our club 
  • With the Director of Instruction, ensure our PGA staff remain engaged with new technology coaching methods 
Qualifications
•    A PGA of Canada Member of more than 5 years who has a substantial amount of continuing education/certification through the               PGA of Canada or other international PGA programs
•   Experience as a leader of a team
•   Shown the ability to build and maintain relationships with a membership and the team
Compensation

Salary: $100,000-$125,000
