Situated in the scenic Rouge River Valley in north-east Toronto, Cedar Brae is one of the finest, most picturesque private golf clubs in the GTA.  Designed by CE (Robbie) Robinson (a Stanley Thompson disciple) the course offers a challenging par 71, 6693-yard layout for the enjoyment of our members and their guests. Cedar Brae prides itself on an exceptional golf course, excellent conditioning, ready access to the tee and game improvement for its members. Over the past several years, the Club has invested in a new Clubhouse and the development of a new addition to its practice facility including a wedge calibration area and 15,000 sq.ft. putting and chipping area. This in addition to a full-length driving range makes Cedar Brae home to the best practice facility in the city. Job Summary

The Head Golf Professional will oversee and manage Cedar Brae’s golf operations in accordance with the Mission and Vision of the Club as set by the Board of Directors, communicated by the General Manager/ COO.

They will recruit, coach, develop and inspire the golf operations team, providing a positive and engaging work environment. They will work cooperatively with other departments to promote an exceptional member and guest experience.

 

REPORTS TO: General Manager/ COO

DIRECT REPORTS: Associate/ Assistant Professionals, Director of Instruction, Director of Merchandise, Golf Shop Attendants, Back Shop Attendants, Starters.

Responsibilities
  • Recruit, train, and supervise all golf operations staff.
  • Mentor and coach golf operations team to develop them into future industry leaders.
  • Elevate the reputation of the Club on a provincial and national level by way of receiving awards/ nominations for awards, networking, representing the Club in tournaments, etc.
  • Prepare and execute annual operating budgets and revenue forecasts.
  • Assist in determining capital needs and budgeting.
  • Provide financial management of golf activities including revenue, expenses, profitability, etc.
  • Track and report usage statistics, trends and other applicable data to the General Manager/ COO as requested.
  • Provide direction and assistance to the Captain’s Committee to ensure successful and enjoyable member services and events.
  • Organize and oversee all member events and outside tournaments.
  • Participate in the promotion and marketing of all golf related Club events.
  • Implement, enforce, and maintain all policies, programs, and plans as established by the Board of Directors communicated through the General Manager/COO.
  • Provide support for prospective member sales, new member integration and membership retention programs as required.
  • Supervise operation and enhance services of Back Shop operation and golf practice facilities.
  • Oversee all instructional golf programs including the junior golf program.
  • Oversee the merchandising of the golf shop providing an award-winning retail experience for our members.
  • Organize and oversee numerous supplier fitting days throughout the year.
  • Ensure inventory is completed with accuracy and submitted monthly.
  • Maintain and promote the online golf shop throughout the year, especially during the off season to boost sales revenue.
  • Oversee the operation of the Winter Golf program ensuring the golf simulators are in good working condition and running programs throughout the winter to boost participation.
Qualifications

EDUCATION, SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:

  • Certified Class “A” member of the PGA of Canada.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience as a Head Golf Professional in a private club environment.
  • A passion for providing an exceptional member experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Jonas Software, Golf Genius, TrackMan as well as inventory and booking software.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.
  • Must be highly organized and detail oriented.
  • Must have strong business acumen. 
  • Strong financial management skills including experience developing and maintaining budgets.
  • Successful golf retail and merchandising experience.
  • Proven track record enhancing customer service standards.
  • Strong team building, coaching and leadership skills.
  • Proficient instructor well versed in the latest teaching and club fitting technologies.
  • Experience dealing with committees and members.
  • Must have strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
