- Job Summary
- The Head Golf Professional is responsible for managing the daily golf operations at Capilano Golf and Country Club, working to provide an exceptional experience for members and guests. This position involves overseeing day-to-day golf operations, the back/bag shop operation, the Pro Shop retail operation, instructional programs (as may be coordinated by the Head Teaching Professional), and coordinating in-Club & inter-Club tournaments. The Head Golf Professional will ensure high service standards and uphold the Club’s reputation for excellence. The Head Golf Professional oversees all golf operations at Capilano Golf and Country Club. They will work closely with, and report to, the General Manager, as well as work with the Course Superintendent and related management team members.
- Responsibilities

Golf Operations Management:
- Manage the day-to-day golf operations, including tee sheet management, pace of play, and member golf services.
- Implemention of club policies, procedures, and best practices applicable to golf operations, including enforcement of dress code, and mobile phone etiquette.
- Oversee the Golf operations facility, golf cart fleet, practice facilities, and rental equipment, ensuring everything is in optimal condition.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and enforce club rules related to the course and facilities.
Staff Supervision & Development/ Leadership & Management/Delegation:
- Lead by example in providing excellent customer service and fostering a positive team environment.
- Develop staff through ongoing training and mentoring, including bringing in third party professionals if appropriate, such that you are comfortable delegating all time-consuming duties to staff as appropriate, ensuring all pre-round power cart, power caddy, golf bag, sand & towel setup, and all post-round club cleaning, battery charging, cart storage, and related take-down activities are comprehensively addressed.
- Coaching and promoting professional development of the assistant professionals.
- Prepare staff schedules to ensure efficient delegation of duties, and coverage for daily operations and events within the budget provided.
- Oversee and manage the daily operations of the golf course, including ensuring tee time including guest booking privileges are adhered to, ensuring staff are monitoring the Verifeye GPS pace of play system to address on-course problems early, and ensuring carts are operated and returned in accordance with Club policy.
- In concert with the Head Teaching Professional, ensuring day-to-day maintenance of the practice facilities, including collection and supply of range balls, clearing the practice green regularly. golf shop, and golf instruction programs.
- Recruit, train, and supervise the golf operations team, including PGA professionals, shop attendants, and other golf-related staff.
- Develop and implement strategic plans to enhance the golf experience and improve operational efficiency.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all golf-related inquiries, member issues, and guest services.
Instruction & Player Development:
- Assist the Head Teaching Professional in the delivery of high-quality golf instruction programs for members and guests, including private lessons, clinics, and junior programs.
- Work with the Head Teaching Professional to develop player development initiatives, including beginner programs and advanced clinics.
- Stay updated with the latest golf instruction techniques and technologies to enhance member experience.
- Assist in managing and overseeing the growth of the club’s junior golf program, fostering future member engagement and participation.
- Seek feedback from members who are using other golf instruction services to assist in formulating instruction offerings.
Tournament & Event Management:
- In concert with your assistant professionals, organize and manage Women’s Days and Men’s Nights, club events (Men’s, Women’s, Mixed and Junior), interclub matches, and member trips, ensuring smooth execution and a memorable experience.
- Collaborate with the Men’s & Women’s Captains and other coordinators on planning and executing major club events, such as championships and charity tournaments.
- Handle event registration, format selection, course setup, and prize distribution, ensuring all tournaments meet Club standards.
- Work with the food & beverage and clubhouse teams to coordinate tournament logistics, including awards, dinners, and ceremonies.
- In concert with the assistant professionals and Course Superintendent, ensure accurate event scoring, rule enforcement, and course setup to meet tournament standards.
Pro Shop & Retail Management:
- Oversee the Retail Manager in daily operations of the pro shop, including sales, merchandising, and inventory management.
- Train staff to provide excellent customer service and product knowledge meeting the needs of members and guests.
- Monitor sales performance and create strategies to meet revenue targets while maintaining high levels of member satisfaction.
- In concert with the Retail Manager, collaborate with vendors to ensure the pro shop offers a premium selection of golf equipment, apparel, and accessories.
- Set pricing strategies and promotions that align with club objectives while ensuring profitability.
Member Relations/ Member Engagement & Service/Guest Engagement:
- In concert with the assistant professionals and other Pro Shop staff, serve as a key point of contact for members and guests, building and maintaining strong relationships with members through regular interaction and visibility.
- Address member inquiries and concerns promptly and professionally, ensuring that any issues are resolved to their satisfaction, including any follow-up as required.
- Act as an ambassador of the club, enhancing guest experience, promoting golf programs and events to enhance member satisfaction.
- Deal with member and staff conflict resolution
- Respond promptly to member concerns, addressing issues related to staff performance, access to the tee, events, and general golf operations.
- Responsible for the development and promotion of special events, clinics, and tournaments that cater to members of all demographics and skill levels.
- In concert with the Men’s Captain and Chair of the Course & Grounds Committee, ensure there is new member orientation with respect to all aspects of booking, and playing a round of golf at the Club, including adhering to booking restrictions, dress code, pace of play, course care and commandeering of carts.
- Ensure guests are made aware of basic expectations on the golf course.
- Acting as Secretary, and attendance at, Match Committee and Course & Grounds Committee meetings.
- Addressing any golf course care issues that the Course Superintendent brings to your attention.
- Reporting to the General Manager and, as appropriate, the President, any material issues that arise with members or staff.
Financial & Administrative Duties:
- Participate in the preparation of the annual budget applicable to golf operations.
- Track and report financial performance of the pro shop, golf instruction programs, and tournament revenue.
- Implement cost and labor control measures while maintaining high service and product quality.
- Ensure all administrative duties, such as staff scheduling, payroll, and reporting, are completed accurately and on time.
- Develop and manage the annual golf operations budget, ensuring cost controls and revenue growth.
- Prepare financial reports and present insights to club leadership on a regular basis.
- Ensure compliance with all local regulations and Capilano Golf and Country Club policies.
- Qualifications

- Strong managerial skills with demonstrated experience and ability to manage multiple golf operations teams, including ongoing training and delegation of responsibilities to ensure smooth, efficient operations.
- PGA of Canada Class A member
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a golf professional, with a focus on club operations and member service.
- Strong knowledge of the game of golf, including rules, equipment, and instruction techniques.
- Proven track record of successfully organizing and managing golf operations at a high-level private golf club.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and assertive customer service skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize.
- Proven ability to manage budgets, control costs, and drive revenue growth.
