General Manager: St. Catharines Golf & Country Club

Located in the centre of St. Catharines, Ontario, the St. Catharines Golf & Country Club is celebrating it's 125th anniversary in 2024. The golf course was originally designed by Stanley Thompson in collaboration with Robert Trent Jones. The Club includes a six-sheet curling rink, a modern fitness centre, a 20m swimming pool and several dining options.

The Club has hosted numerous provincial and national championships. The Club will be hosting the 2024 Ontario Men’s Amateur Golf Championship and the 2024 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship.

Job Summary

The Opportunity

Due to an upcoming retirement, the St. Catharines Golf & Country Club is searching for their future operations leader in their next General Manager (GM). The GM is responsible for executing the strategic plan for the board, the leader of the Club’s management team and is responsible for all facets of the Club’s operation.

Direct Reports

Head Golf Professional and Director of Curling, Director of Administration, Grounds Superintendent, Assistant General Manager

Responsibilities

The General Manager will be responsible for the following:

• Manage the organization in accordance with the strategies, plans and policies as approved by the Board of Directors.

• Oversee the efficient management of all aspects of the Club’s activities to ensure a high level of member satisfaction.

• Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure strong financial controls.

• Maintain visibility with club members and guests.

• Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements affecting the Club.

• Lead the Club’s human resources to foster development and growth of all staff members.

• Maintain effective communication with staff and members.

• Experience in planning and executing major capital projects.

• Effectively managing in a unionized environment.

Qualifications

The GM reports to the Board of Directors through the President. The successful candidate must possess the following core competencies and experience to play a leading role in achieving the strategic and business objectives of the Club.

Leadership Skills

• Must have the ability to engage and inspire department managers and their teams to enhance member satisfaction.

• Demonstrated leadership skills in team building and service training.

• Represent the Club as spokesperson to internal and external groups.

Member Focus

• Promote and be a champion for service excellence.

• Ability to maintain high standards of service expected at a member owned club.

• Experience demonstrating strong professional results with a commitment to member services.

Financial

• Experience managing golf course operations and capital projects.

• Strong understanding of finance, information technology and performance management.

• Ability to build on the financial strength of the Club.

Education and Experience

• A post-secondary degree in business, hospitality or professional golf management is preferred.

• Experience as a senior leader in a private club or similar facility.

• Proven experience in developing and managing budgets and capital plans.

• Experience reporting to a governance board of directors.

Compensation
The Club will offer a compensation package commensurate with experience.
