RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS
Golf Operations Management:- Oversee all facets of the Golf Shop, Golf Operations, and member golf events.
- Continuously strive for operational improvement, ensuring the delivery of the highest level of service to members and their guests.
- Review and potentially revise Golf Shop goals, policies, and procedures for optimization.
- Collaborate with department heads to ensure a seamless and coordinated operation across all areas.
- Provide comprehensive progress reports on key aspects of the Golf Shop and Golf Operations as requested by the General Manager, offering regular updates on specific areas.
- Monitor and manage inventory levels for the Golf Shop, Golf Operations, and Locker Rooms.
- Supervise staff golf-related activities, purchases, and discounts.
- Uphold standards of cleanliness in the Golf Shop, maintaining organized files and well-maintained equipment.
Strategic Planning:
- Persistently assess and implement innovative ideas to elevate the Magna Golf Club brand and overall member experience.
- Foster collaboration with all departments to identify synergies and introduce fresh business ideas and initiatives.
Financial Oversight:
- Develop and manage the annual golf operation budget, overseeing its implementation and adherence.
- Ensure the golf operation aligns with all club financial guidelines, encompassing purchasing, inventory management, payroll, and fee schedules.
- Take ultimate responsibility for maintaining golf shop inventory and achieving annual targets.
- Review and analyze monthly Profit and Loss (P&L) statements for golf operations, offering explanations on variances and providing insightful forecasting.
- Gather comprehensive data on rounds, inventory, sales, cost of goods sold, labour, profit/loss analysis, and margin evaluations, submitting reports as requested.
Member Engagement:
- Develop and distribute regular member communications to spotlight upcoming features and events within the golf operation at the club.
- Engage in golf activities with club members as appropriate.
- Offer instruction and club fitting services to enhance member experiences.
- Utilize various communication channels, including email blasts and promotional materials, to keep members informed and actively promote golf events at the club.
- Extend hospitality and goodwill to all members and invited guests, fostering a positive and inclusive club atmosphere.
Golf Shop/Programming:
- Cultivate and sustain partnerships with vendors to enhance business relationships.
- Oversee the purchasing, sales, and merchandising of all golf shop hard and soft goods.
- Ensure accurate monthly inventory counts are conducted and maintained.
- Oversee ordering and returning staff uniform pieces.
- Attend trade shows and engage in partner programs to stay informed and up to date on current trends and products in the industry.
- Create and implement programming for the MGC golf simulator.
- Proactively promote and encourage member engagement with the simulator.
- Design, promote, coordinate, and successfully execute all golf events, including our renowned Member Guest and Club Championship Events.
MGC Caddie Program:
- Contract and train all independent caddies for the MGC caddie program.
- Maintain accurate records of caddie usage, trends, and financials.
- Promote the caddie program to MGC members.
Personnel Management and Safety Oversight:
Human Resources Leadership
Recruit, train, and mentor Golf Professionals, Golf Operations, and Locker Room staff in accordance with MGC Policies and Procedures.
- Provide leadership and motivation to all Golf Operations staff.
- Conduct regular meetings with Golf Operations staff for event updates and to address concerns on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
- Supervise and manage the scheduling of all golf department employees.
- Perform evaluations for Golf Professionals, Golf Operations, and Locker Room staff.
Safety and Compliance
- Ensure staff compliance with outlined policies and procedures.
- Implement changes to working practices when necessary, ensuring safety and compliance with legislation.
- Conduct risk assessments, identifying and mitigating potential hazards for Golf Operations, Locker Room staff, and Caddies.
- Develop and communicate safe operating procedures, considering all relevant hazards.
- Conduct regular site inspections to ensure adherence to policies and procedures.
- Lead in-house training sessions for managers and employees on general health and safety issues as well as job-specific risks.
- Oversee the safe installation of new equipment.
Professional Development:
- Stay current with golf technology, pursue continuous education through the PGA of Canada, keep management methods up-to-date, and continually upgrade teaching and coaching certifications.
- Actively participate as a member of the PGA of Ontario and PGA of Canada, while maintaining a local network of industry contacts.
REPORTING STRUCTURE
- The Director of Golf supervises the Golf Professional Staff, Golf Shop Attendants, Golf Operations Staff, Starters and Marshalls, and Men’s and Ladies’ Locker Room Attendants.
- The Director of Golf reports directly to the General Manager.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- A minimum of 5 years' experience as a Head Professional or Director of Golf.
- Class 'A' membership with the PGA of Canada or PGA of America.
- Proficient in computer applications: Excel, Word, Golf Genius, POS programs (e.g., Jonas).
- Possess an advanced understanding of the rules of golf, tournament formatting, scoring, and handicapping.
